Lincoln, 2008

Creston Villa is probably the best bed and breakfast in the UK we've stayed in. Anna and Iain were perfect hosts, and we felt utterly at home. Perhaps even better than home.

The Chesterfields in the sitting room helped, of course - Beatrice loves those old couches.

Flying

We enjoyed excellent weather, walking in the charming town centre and up the winding paths to the castle.

The only day it rained was when we had to go to Wickenby Airfield, where Beatrice learned to fly a light plane. She was very smug about it.

Having just landed, she remarked, "You don't have to use a lot of force at all like you see in the movies. A gentle tip is enough."
